Renewal Period: Two-Year Certification Cycle
NHCO certifications are renewed for a two-year period based on the original certification expiration date. The renewal period is calculated from the existing certification expiration date, not from the date the renewal application is submitted or processed
Renewal Period Explanation
When a certification is renewed:
- The renewed certification period begins from the original expiration date.
- If a certification has expired, the renewal reinstates the credential beginning from the previous expiration date.
- Submitting a renewal after the expiration date does not extend the certification beyond the standard two-year renewal cycle.
- The renewal simply restores the credential for the established renewal period.
Example 1: Certification expired November 25, 2025
If a certification expired on November 25, 2025, the renewed certification would be valid:
November 25, 2025 – November 25, 2027
This remains the same regardless of when the renewal application is submitted or processed.
Example 2: Certification expired November 25, 2024 and renewed November 25, 2025
If a certification expired one year earlier and was renewed on November 25, 2025, the new expiration date would be:
November 25, 2026
The renewal does not create a new two-year period starting from the renewal submission date. Instead, it restores the certification and completes the remaining portion of the established renewal cycle.
